Mentor's Bible Study #6 - Resurrection of the Dead

LESSON #6 - RESURRECTION OF THE DEAD

Job 19:25-27

The book of Job is considered by many Bible scholars to be the first book written of the Old Testament. Job makes a strong statement here about the resurrection of the dead.

Psalms 16:9-10

This scripture is quoted of Jesus' resurrection in Acts 2 by Peter. Jesus was the first to be resurrected and stay that way

Isa. 25:8

The resurrection of the righteous gives the Christian a confidence that when they die, they don't have to fear death.

Daniel 12:2-3
Acts 24:15
John 5:28-29

Daniel prophecies that those who have died will either be raised to everlasting life, or to everlasting shame, and contempt. Acts says there is a resurrection of the just and the unjust. This means that we won't die anymore.

Luke 14:12-14

It will be at the resurrection of the just that we will be rewarded for the things we have done for others for the glory of Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit.

John 14:19
Acts 17:32,23:6

Because Jesus lives, we shall live also. Just as He has been resurrected and glorified, so shall we share these with Him. This is offensive to some, and hard for others to be understood.

I Corinthians 15:42-44, 48-50

Notice the comparisons so that we can understand a little of what the resurrection of the dead will be like.

I Corinthians 15:51-52
I Thessalonians 4:16-18

There will be those that never die and are instantly changed from mortality to immortality. This will happen when Jesus comes for his church. We call this the "rapture", or the catching up of the Christians to be with Jesus in the sky.

Philippians 3:10-11
Corinthians 15:32

How do I know if I will be in the resurrection of the just? First, "that I might know Him". Have you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, then this is one of the qualifications. Secondly, "and the power of His resurrection". As a Christian, you have God's Spirit in you, which is the power of the resurrection. Also there are times when we suffer for our faith in Christ. Very few of us suffer like Christ did in His death. If we didn't have such a sure promise that we would be resurrected and have eternal life, we might as well live it up. But God is true to His Word, so that it is beneficial to live for Christ and serve Him.
